  5.      ParaNet  Information Service (Denver, CO)--This evening  saw
  6.  
  7. perhaps an unprecedented event in UFOlogy.  KLAS-TV in Las Vegas,
  8.  
  9. Nevada  has  been airing a UFO special during  the  evening  news
  10.  
  11. which began on Monday dealing with the UFO mystery and  cover-up.
  12.  
  13. The series, which has been covered by ParaNet, began its coverage
  14.  
  15. with  a  history of UFOs beginning in the late 1940s  and  moving
  16.  
  17. forward  through  the  numerous sighting reports  to  the  cattle
  18.  
  19. mutilations,  which was aired last evening.  As promised  at  the
  20.  
  21. close of last evening's show, George Knapp, a news anchorman  for
  22.  
  23. Channel  8  in Vegas, stated that a scientific  person  would  be
  24.  
  25. featured on tonight's program who has claimed to work at Area 51,
  26.  
  27. the  government's super-secret test range at Nevada Test Site  at
  28.  
  29. Mercury, Nevada.
  30.  
  31. Indeed,  quite a story was told by Robert Lazar, a physicist  who
  32.  
  33. claimed  that  he had worked on a project at  Area  51  involving
  34.  
  35. flying disks provided by alien intelligences.
  36.  
  37.      Over the last year, ParaNet has carried stories relating  to
  38.  
  39. possible  involvement  with the government in  projects  of  this
  40.  
  41. nature at the Nevada test site.  Up to now, the stories have been
  42.  
  43. of a very speculative nature.  Although the material presented by
  44.  
  45. Robert  Lazar  remains unconfirmed, enough information  has  been
  46.  
  47. disclosed that ParaNet's large investigative staff in Nevada  has
  48.  
  49. started an intensive investigation into this release. Both  Lazar
  50.  
  51. (formerly  known  only  as "Dennis") and Lear  have  appeared  on
  52.  
  53. Channel  8 -- Lear appearing on numerous occasions together  will
  54.  
  55. Bill Cooper discussing Lear's famous 'ET Hypothesis.'  On a  past
  56.  
  57. KLAS-TV  report,  Lear was shown to have  traveled  to  locations
  58.  
  59. appearing to overlook the test site which purportedly provided  a
  60.  
  61. good  view of the objects as they flew into the night sky.   Lear
  62.  
  63. attempted  to shoot video of an object as it  maneuvered  through
  64.  
  65. the night sky during last summer, however nothing was captured on
  66.  
  67. the  tape  of a substantive nature.  Lear also relates  that  his
  68.  
  69. group  was  harassed by a Lincoln County  sheriff  following  his
  70.  
  71. attempts to take the pictures.

  73.      Below  is  a  transcript  of the  program  that  aired  this
  74.  
  75. evening.   All paragraphs out of quotes are the narrator  of  the
  76.  
  77. segment.   We were as accurate as possible on the  transcription,
  78.  
  79. however  there are a couple of places where comments were  edited
  80.  
  81. out due to inability to understand what was being said.

  91.      We've  been  working  on  the  story  for  some  time....UFO
  92.  
  93. researchers  claim that there is a secret government  within  our
  94.  
  95. government.  Now this may be hard to believe coming from the  UFO
  96.  
  97. perspective,  but  we have learned that Watergate  and  the  Iran
  98.  
  99. Contra  scandal  that factions within our government can  and  do
  100.  
  101. pursue  their own hidden agendas outside of the law; outside  the
  102.  
  103. control of the Congress or the knowledge of the American  people.
  104.  
  105. This is exactly the type of operation that we hear about tonight.
  106.  
  107. It's  a  chilling scenario with worldwide implications  that  may
  108.  
  109. have its roots right here [Las Vegas, Nevada].
  110.  
  111.      Area 51, that mysterious corner of the Nevada Test Site,  is
  112.  
  113. no  longer considered a secret.  The fact that  secretive  things
  114.  
  115. go on here isn't evident; even to the Soviets who make daily  spy
  116.  
  117. flights  over  the facility to take a peek at  what's  going  on.
  118.  
  119. These photos, never before shown in public, are about as close as
  120.  
  121. anyone will ever come to seeing what the place looks like  again.
  122.  
  123. The dry bed at Groom Lake, the corrugated buildings, a three-mile
  124.  
  125. long  runway  and some highly sophisticated radar  and  detection
  126.  
  127. equipment.   Its  been  known by many names  over  the  years  --
  128.  
  129. Dreamland; The Ranch; The Skunk Works.  If ever there was a place
  130.  
  131. to  test  the  secret new technology, this  is  it.   And  that's
  132.  
  133. exactly what has been done here for decades.

  135.      Area  51  is  where Francis Gary Powers and  the  other  U-2
  136.  
  137. pilots  were trained in the 50s.  And, where the U-2  itself  was
  138.  
  139. developed.   The SR-71 spy plane that spotted Soviet missiles  in
  140.  
  141. Cuba  in  the early 60s were also developed at 51.  51  is  where
  142.  
  143. Stealth  technology  was nurtured, where Star  Wars  devices  are
  144.  
  145. still tested, and where all manner of CIA [unknown] business  has
  146.  
  147. been  plotted  and refined.  It's the perfect  place  for  secret
  148.  
  149. things,  but  of course, that's no secret.  51 is ringed  by  the
  150.  
  151. forbidden vastness of the Nevada test site; by the looming  Groom
  152.  
  153. Mountain  and  by sparsely populated desert  expanses.   But  the
  154.  
  155. people that do live out here have no love lost for the  military,
  156.  
  157. but  they're  conservative,  patriotic and they  mind  their  own
  158.  
  159. business.

  164.  
  165. something that you can't explain?"

  167. Resident: "Sure, lots of times."

  169. Interviewer:  "Care to elaborate?"

  175.      On  any given night at the Rachel Bar and Grill,  you  might
  176.  
  177. find  three or four people who work at Area 51.  They  are  among
  178.  
  179. the flowing Budweiser and the cowboy hats.  You might find  them,
  180.  
  181. but  they  are not going to talk to.  Not about the  things  that
  182.  
  183. they have seen over the mountain.  A steady trickle of curiosity-
  184.  
  185. seekers  flows through here; strangers, drawn by strange  stories
  186.  
  187. of lights in the night sky.  Their questions also go  unanswered.
  188.  
  189. No one who has worked at Dreamland has ever publicly acknowledged
  190.  
  191. what  so  many  people  have suspected  for  years:   That  alien
  192.  
  193. technology is being tested in the Nevada desert.
  194.  
  195.      The speculation first surfaced in documents obtained by  UFO
  196.  
  197. researchers.  Documents about something called Project  Aquarius.
  198.  
  199. The document allegedly prepared for an organization called MJ-12,
  200.  
  201. states  that  a  program to fly recovered  alien  spacecraft  was
  202.  
  203. established  in 1972 and is continuing in Nevada.   The  National
  204.  
  205. Security Agency has confirmed it does have a Project Aquarius but
  206.  
  207. denies that it has anything to do with flying saucers.  NSA  will
  208.  
  209. not say what Project Aquarius is.
  210.  
  211.      Speculation  was  heightened  in 1984, when  the  Air  Force
  212.  
  213. seized nearly 90,000 acres around Groom Lake.  The action was, by
  214.  
  215. most accounts, illegal.  During Congressional hearings about  the
  216.  
  217. land grab, Congressman John Siberling grilled the military  about
  218.  
  219. the legal authority used in the action and was told the authority
  220.  
  221. was   at  a  much,  much  higher  level  than  the   Air   Force.
  222.  
  223. Siberling  asked  what authority is higher than the laws  of  the
  224.  
  225. United States?  The Air Force official said he could respond, but
  226.  
  227. only in a closed briefing.  In 1987, when the Air Force sought to
  228.  
  229. renew  its  stranglehold on the Groom range, news  articles  once
  230.  
  231. again  mentioned the talk about alien spacecraft  and  subsequent
  232.  
  233. articles  in  national magazines quoted  un-named  sources  about
  234.  
  235. things of alien origin flying in Nevada.  Things that would  make
  236.  
  237. film-maker  George Lucas drool.  Despite the speculation, no  one
  238.  
  239. who  knew Area 51 from the inside ever talked publicly about  the
  240.  
  241. saucer story.

  245. Bob  Lazar:  "Well, there's several uh, actually nine  uh  flying
  246.  
  247. saucers,  flying  disks that are out  there  of  extraterrestrial
  248.  
  249. origin."   The  live  interview with the  shadowy  "Dennis"  drew
  250.  
  251. international attention.  Portions were broadcast by radio in six
  252.  
  253. European  countries, and in a nationally televised TV special  in
  254.  
  255. Japan.

  257.      Despite  numerous  inquiries  and  "feelers,"  "Dennis"  has
  258.  
  259. remained anonymous until now.  His real name is Robert Lazar.   A
  260.  
  261. young scientist with eclectic interests.  The choice of  "Dennis"
  262.  
  263. was an inside joke -- he says that's the name of his superior  at
  264.  
  265. Groom Lake.  It wasn't a joke to Dennis.
